Basic guidelines for writing this letter: 1. Title (please do not change the title): Letter of Interest 2. Length: up to 1,800 words 3. Language: clear, concise, and grammatically correct English languag 4. Submission: as an attachment to the application form and only in ".pdf" format (letters of interest or applications in paper form will not be considered) 5. Letters of Interest:These will be evaluated against these main criteria: • Originality of thoughts/ideas: Essay takes a position on a debatable point (not just observation/description); Essay thesis makes sense (is defensible) and is relevant to the essay title of putting sustainable development principles in practice; Essay presents a logical argument in support of its thesis; Important ideas/concepts are addressed; An analysis of the essay thesis and discussion of main issues well presented. • Organization: Introduction provides context and direction; Clear statements are found at or near end of 1st paragraph; Paragraphs are concise, unified and coherent, Purpose of each paragraph is clear (represents a logical step in argument); Transitions between paragraphs are logical; All necessary steps in argument are included (no leaps in logic); There is adequate textual support for each step in argument; Points are made in logical order (e.g. most general/simple/obvious to most specific/complex/subtle); Paper is of appropriate length for assignment (not more than 1000 words); Concluding paragraph is emphatic, relevant and logical. 4.
